Improving Cobalt Quality Through Drying, Burning, and Grinding

Cobalt grade increased from 5.8% to 11.4% after drying and thermal processing. Further controlled treatment is targeted to increase the concentration to approximately 15%.

Moisture content after burning decreased to 0.72%.

The increase from 5.8% to 11.4% indicates that reducing moisture and non-metallic components can significantly improve the cobalt concentration in the final material.

However, both laboratory reports apply only to the submitted samples. Results from each production lot may vary depending on raw material condition, homogeneity, moisture level, treatment temperature, processing duration, and sampling method.

Target Grade of Approximately 15%

PT Metal Multi Energi aims to continue improving the processing method so that the cobalt concentration may reach approximately 15%.

This target may be pursued through better drying control, optimization of burning temperature and duration, more uniform grinding, removal of unwanted impurities, and representative sampling procedures.

The 15% cobalt level remains a processing target and should not be treated as a guaranteed specification until it has been confirmed through additional laboratory testing of future production samples.

Every quality improvement process must also consider mass balance. When moisture and non-metal components are removed, the total material weight decreases. Therefore, evaluation should not focus only on the cobalt percentage. It should also consider the initial weight, final weight, moisture content, processing loss, and total contained cobalt.
